Next Chapter ("we", "us") is a book club website at https://next-chapter-bookclub.com, operated by Lauren Tomlin. By creating an account or using the site, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use Next Chapter.
You need an account to use Next Chapter. Give accurate information, keep your password private, and tell us if you think someone else is using your account. You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age in your country) to use Next Chapter, and at least 18 to buy a subscription.
Anyone can start a club and becomes its admin. Admins can invite and remove members, manage the picker rotation, edit club details and manage the club's subscription. Admins are responsible for who they invite and for keeping the club's content appropriate.
Spotlight, nominations and voting, meetings, chat, the Library, member profiles, the how-to FAQ and feature requests are free. Premium adds AI book picks, Shelves and borrowing, and the Q&A board. We may add, change or retire features over time; if we remove a Premium feature you rely on, you can cancel.
Because you can cancel anytime and keep Premium through the period you paid for, payments are generally non-refundable, including for partial months or years. If you were charged by mistake, or forgot to cancel a yearly renewal and contact us within 14 days of the charge without having used Premium since, email us and we'll make it right. Nothing in this section limits any refund rights you have under applicable law.
You own what you post, such as ratings, reviews, messages, questions and profile details. You give us permission to store, display and process it to run Next Chapter for you and your club, including sending it to our service providers described in the Privacy Policy. Content you post in a club is visible to that club's members.
Don't use Next Chapter to harass people, post illegal or infringing content, share other people's private information without permission, spam, try to break or overload the site, access clubs or data you're not a member of, or resell the service. We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules.
AI picks are generated automatically from your club's ratings and profiles. They're suggestions, can be wrong or incomplete, and may not include very recent books. Book details like page counts or genres may be approximate.
You can leave a club or ask us to delete your account at any time by emailing us. We may suspend or end accounts that violate these Terms. If we shut down Next Chapter, we'll give reasonable notice and refund any prepaid, unused subscription time.
Next Chapter is provided "as is" and "as available." We work hard to keep it running and your data safe, but we don't promise it will always be available, error-free or secure.
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (or $50 if you haven't paid anything).
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If you have a concern, please contact us first; most issues can be solved by email.
We may update these Terms. If a change is significant, we'll let account holders know by email or in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Next Chapter after that means you accept the updated Terms.
